Tonkovich -NCDC Player of the Week

Assistant Captain, Austin Tonkovich tallied 3 goals and an assist in the weekend split with the South Shore Kings, earning player of the week for the NCDC squad. Tonkovich first got on the score sheet assisting on the Monarchs’ second goal of game one. From there, you could really tell that the 97’ birth year forward got some confidence going. Off a point shot from David Kompson that was blocked, Tonkovich came flying across and banged home his second goal of the season, which lead to be the game-winning goal of the game.

In Game two, the Monarchs really came out flat allowing the Kings to get a two-goal lead just 7 minutes into the first period. The Monarchs were looking for a spark to get them going, and Tonkovich was there to supply the much-needed jump. Off a designed face-off play, Tonkovich was all alone in the high slot and buried a one timer top shelf. Tonkovich was not done as he finally broke the Monarchs’ scoreless drought on the power play, with just 2 seconds left in the first period. After a give a way in the high slot, Logan Clarke passed to Tonkovich back door who deflected the puck over the pad of the Kings’ goalie evening the score at 2. Though the Monarchs were unable to score again, Tonkovich was making some very nice plays with the puck and had some great opportunities.

Tonkovich now leads the Monarchs in points with 7 after 7 games. The Monarchs now head to the New Jersey Hitmen showcase and face off Friday night against the defending champions, Islanders Hockey Club. Tune in to Hockey TV to watch the games live.
